Buyer's Guide
Tradesman watches built for the job.
A tradesman's watch isn't jewelry — it's the most-used tool on your wrist. You read it dozens of times a shift, often with grimy hands, often in bad light, often after it's taken a knock against conduit, a pipe wrench, or the side of a service panel. Most watches fail that test within a month. The ones worth wearing share a short list of features that actually matter on a job site, and knowing them is the difference between a watch that lasts a decade and one that ends up in a junk drawer.
Legibility first. A dial you can read at a glance beats every other spec. High-contrast hands, bold markers, and a clean layout let you check the time without breaking focus on the work. Lume that works. Swiss blue or green Super-LumiNova on the hands and indices means the dial stays readable in a dark crawlspace, an attic, or a basement service room long after the lights go out. Cheap afterglow lume fades in minutes; the good stuff lasts for hours.
Case and crystal. 316L stainless steel shrugs off corrosion from sweat, salt, and jobsite chemicals, and a brushed finish hides the scratches that a polished case wears like scars. A flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating resists the impacts and abrasions that wreck mineral glass — sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness, so it survives the scrapes that come with the trade. Water resistance. A 50-meter / 5 ATM rating covers rain, sweat, hand-washing, and the accidental dunk — you don't need a dive watch, but you do need more than a "splash-resistant" dress watch.
Movement and strap. A reliable quartz movement keeps accuracy without the service intervals and cost of an automatic, which matters when the watch is a daily beater, not a safe queen. A strap that grips, doesn't trap dirt, and cleans easily — rubber or a sealed leather — outperforms a loose bracelet on a dirty job. The Blue Collar Watch Collection Electrician Edition was built to every one of these standards: a 40mm 316L brushed steel case, flat sapphire with AR coating, Swiss blue lume, 50-meter water resistance, and a Ronda 715 quartz movement. It's the tradesman watch we wished existed — so we built it. Learn more about the brand →
